historical perspective
or rather, my lack thereof
that's what I was going to write about when I got sidetracked and played
Bionic Commando for three straight hours.
and now I find nothing in my brain.
or perhaps . . .
I think I just worry sometimes that when I think of literature or films or
. . . not so much music, but . . . I tend to think about fairly recent
stuff. and it makes me feel unlearned, or trite, or something - as iff
all new stuf fis by definithion shallow, because it's more important to
"trace the roots of influence" back to, I don't know, the bible. it's a
dumb fear, really, based on a pretentious viewpoint. not that historical
perspective is bad, but it isn't everything.
anyhow, viewing movies, reading books, listening to music - all of that is
about fun for me anyhow, not studying it. I'm not much of a fan of
dissecting that sort of thing - if it stirs thoughts in you, so be it, but
there's no reason not to enjoy it as an experience. for example, this is
why I haven't read Dante's Inferno - I'm interested in the content,
but I couldn't get past the presentation.

ramble.
